What are RECs (Renewable Energy Communities)?
A Renewable Energy Community is an autonomous legal entity based on open and voluntary participation.
It represents a collaborative model in which citizens, small and medium-sized enterprises, religious organizations, and public administrations join forces to produce, share, and consume energy from clean sources (such as solar power).
The main goal is to generate environmental, economic, and social benefits at the local level.
What role can you play?
Within a REC, you can participate in different ways, depending on your needs and possibilities:
Consumer
Someone who doesn't have the ability to install a system but participates by consuming the clean energy produced by other members.
Prosumer
Someone who owns a renewable energy system (e.g., panels on the roof of their home or business). They use the energy for their own needs and make the surplus available to the community.
Producer
Someone who installs an energy system and puts the energy produced at the service of the community.
How does the exchange and incentive work?
Grid injection
Energy produced by the systems and not consumed immediately is fed into the electrical grid.
Virtual sharing
When community members consume energy at the same time the systems are producing it, a virtual sharing mechanism is activated.
Financial incentive
The State grants a financial incentive for every kilowatt-hour shared simultaneously by community members.

Savings and Benefits
State incentives are redistributed among participants according to the internal rules set by the community, easing energy costs.
Environmental sustainability
CO2 emissions are reduced, concretely promoting the ecological transition of the local area.
Social impact
Part of the proceeds can be allocated to local projects, for example to support families experiencing energy poverty or to redevelop public spaces.
